Pound cake

The original home-made Pound cake is one of the most basic and beloved cakes worldwide. Dating back to medieval times it is easily recognizable by its signature recipe. Four basic ingredients in equal amount form the cake: flour, butter or fat, eggs and sugar. The ingredients are measured, mixed and baked resulting in quite a dense product. For industrial production the recipe can be adjusted by introducing baking powder for some lightness, and functional ingredients to prolong its otherwise very short shelf life.
